You know you have a great tech startup idea, but is an SBIR grant right for it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The answer depends on three factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. your startup eligibility<\/li>
  2. your startup goals<\/li>
  3. SBIR funding Agency’s mission and priorities <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    First, is your startup eligible?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Since the SBIR grants use eligibility to filter grant applicants, for the bureaucratic government to bend the rules in your case can be as hard as moving a mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What are the SBIR eligibility requirements?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. must be for-profit and the U.S. owned and operated company<\/li>
    2. can complete all grant-related work in the U.S.<\/li>
    3. has the ability to performing R&D \u2013 not commercializing a technology that has already been developed (i.e., you have a product)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      However, an unwritten law states that startups less than one year are unlikely to win a grant because of a lack of credibility.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
